Corrections policy

We would rather be corrected than be wrong. If something we have published is inaccurate, we will fix it and say that we did.

How corrections are made

When a published article is found to contain a factual error, we correct the article and record what changed and when. Substantive corrections are noted on the article itself rather than made silently. The published date stays as it was; the updated date reflects the correction.

Where a story was published on the basis of an official source that has since been changed or withdrawn, we say so and link to the current version.

Requesting a correction

Tell us which article, which specific claim is wrong, and what the correct position is. If you can point us to an official source, that will usually resolve it the same day.

If you believe material published here infringes your copyright, contact us with the article URL and details of the work concerned and we will review it promptly. Photography is used under licence, under Creative Commons terms with attribution, or is our own original artwork; if we have made a mistake in attribution we will correct or remove the image.
